Food Industry Leaders Unite on Food Safety

ARLINGTON, VA. – August 28, 2018 –The non-profit Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) is pleased to release new The Story of Your Dinner consumer food safety tools in time for National Food Safety Education Month with the support of  Ardent Mills, Cargill, Costco Wholesale, and the Frozen Food Foundation. The Story of Your Dinner supports families in having safe, fun and tasty meals at home. 

“We’re working to integrate safe food handling with the fun of making meals and snacks at home,” said Shelley Feist, PFSE executive director. “We’re very appreciative of these sponsors for helping us educate people about the food safety chain of prevention and the individuals’ role in that chain of prevention.”

Over the past two years, The Story of Your Dinner has earned nearly 500 million consumer impressions. This year, the campaign launches on September 4, in time for Family Meals Month and National Food Safety Education Month in September.

The Story of Your Dinner campaign includes highly-shareable materials for consumers, the food industry and the Partnership’s active network of 13,000 BAC Fighters. The network of health and food safety educators — including dietitians, cooperative extension specialists, caregivers, and public health officials — delivers food safety education to millions of people in the United States each year.  

Materials for this year’s program, include:

“One in six Americans get sick with a foodborne illness each year. We can improve this statistic when we come together to reduce foodborne illnesses,” said Kathy Means, PFSE Board chairperson and Produce Marketing Association vice president of demand creation and consumer affairs. “A great benefit of The Story of Your Dinner is the chance for industry to be part of the solution on raising visibility around the simple steps to getting a safe meal on the table. We’re honored to work with such an inspiring group.”
